Elson G. Bennett was a pioneer of Limestone Co., TX. He came to TX in
1850 with his wife Louisa and settled near Fort Parker. He was an
explorer and drove a mule team in the army. He fought in the CSA during
the Civil War and was captured and imprisoned in Illinois twice. He
fought at the Battle of Missionary Ridge near Chattanooga, TN where he
was captured the 2nd time. He was imprisoned at Rockford, IL until
1864. After the war he was a farmer and rancher in Limestone Co.
