Boss was a boiler inspector. He studied his trade at Tulane University
in New Orleans; therefore, he is often described as having had a "college
education". He traveled over much of central and east TX on business and
moved many times. The family lived in Coolidge, Malone, Abilene,
Sweetwater, Datura, Sagerton, Houston, etc. He retired in Mexia and
considered Limestone Co. his home.
He was a excellant furniture maker and had a shop at his home in Mexia.
He made ladder back chairs with rope seats, bedsteads, toys, etc. He was
known to give handmade rolling pins as wedding gifts for the bride so
that she might keep the groom in line. He was also a farmer and the
manager of a cotton gin and at one time served as a deputy sheriff of
Datura, TX. After his retirement, he raised watermelons which he
generousely gave away to the citizens of Mexia. He was proud of having
been born in GA and traveled there at least twice to see his old home in
Walker Co. He was a kind and generous man who loved people and was well
known and well liked wherever he lived.
